Baroness Ilora Finlay
Professor of Palliative Medicine, Cardiff University; established the Diploma/MSc in Palliative Medicine; lead Palliative Care in Wales to ensure 7-day specialist services with 24/7 advice.
She is President of the Chartered Society for Physiotherapy; Vice President of Hospice UK and of Marie Curie Care. Past-President of BMA, RSM and Association for Palliative Medicine.
Chairs the National Mental Capacity Forum for Ministry of Justice and Department of Health since 2015; Chairs Alcohol Harms Commission since 2020; Member of Commonwealth ‘Tribute to Life’ - UK advisory committee and Chairs Board of Governors of Cardiff Metropolitan University since 2018.
Ilora became a life-Peer in 2001, served on Select Committee on Assisted Dying for the Terminally Ill; now co-Chairs think-tank Living and Dying Well.
She is currently Deputy Speaker and Deputy Chairman of Committees in the House of Lords.
Baroness Finlay was awarded Welsh Woman of the Year 1996-97 and has held Visiting Professorships in the Netherlands and Australia. She has also achieved; 2008 'Woman Peer of the Year', 2007 Parliamentary Charity Champion, 2014 Welsh Livery Guild Lifetime Achievement Award.
