Two Bevan Exemplars showcased their work at the Connected Health Summer School in Artimino, Italy on June 24th and 25th 2019.
The event looked at research into the use of connected devices and Smart Homes for Healthy Ageing, supporting people with dementia. Delegates at the Summer School included participants from business, health and academia as well as people living with dementia and their carers, giving the workshops a rich mix of knowledge and expertise and facilitating coproduction.
Showcasing her innovative Bevan Exemplar project was Andrea Evans, a Clinical Psychologist with Hywel Dda University Health Board whose work looks at the impact of personal profiles, which can support person centred and holistic care for people living with a diagnosed or emerging dementia on a mental health ward.
Andrea Evans said: “The Summer School has helped me to realise the scalability of my project into a digital platform, through networking with technical collaborators to take it forward. There is a real reciprocity of value in learning together across disciplines.”
Clive Thomas, a Specialist Practitioner and Mental Health Nurse at Swansea Bay University Health Board, developed an app to support community dementia triage for early memory deficits in primary care. The triage test enables GPs to action referrals to Specialist Memory Services with confidence.
Clive Thomas said: …”the opportunity to network and showcase my project has been invaluable. I’ve been able to raise the profile of the Prudent Healthcare principles, which are a novel concept in Europe. The Summer School is a real opportunity to learn in a robust academic context, highlighting research and development opportunities.”
The Connected Health Summer School, now in its fourth year and includes a full programme of activities designed to offer theoretical and practical perspectives. It offers training in health, technology, social science and business topics. Delegates attend working group activities and technical sessions, allowing participants to gain experience with sensing, data collection, processing, visualization and interpretation of data that can be collected within a Smart Home.
