Dame Sue Bailey

My family roots lie in North Wales and the Northwest of England. Qualified in Medicine at Manchester University. Clinical career was as a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and my research focus was health and social care as a social scientist.

Through professional roles I work to drive evidenced-based policy into practice to improve outcomes for vulnerable people and reach parity for mental health. Past roles include: President of the Royal College of Psychiatrists; Chair of the UK Academy of Medical Royal Colleges, where I led the Choosing Wisely campaign; Mental Health Advisor to Health Education England and Advisor to the Minister for Health and Social Services In Wales for the Together for Children Programme. Currently a Non-Executive Director at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) and a Non-Executive Director at the DHSC (England).

I am delighted to be Bevan Commissioner as the underlying principles and values of the Bevan Commission are those I espouse; building positive social identities across communities, supporting professionals, the public, voluntary sector and peer support workers to work together to common good using AI as an enabler in this endeavour to improve health outcomes for all.
